Welcome to Albania !

What is included in my trip?
All of our holidays include the following services, as described in our brochure and trip dossiers and as detailed on this website: internal flights (where appropriate), land transport, accommodation, meals (as specified), leaders and support staff. The price includes all the services mentioned in the program.

What the Price does not Include ?
All additional expenses incurred : Cost of visas, vaccinations, tips for porters, guides and other staff, bar bills, drinks with meals, hotel refreshments, laundry, telephone calls, souvenirs, meals other than those specified in the relevant trip dossier, entrance charges to some historical sites, certain national park and peak fees - as highlighted in our brochure / website, travel insurance, personal clothing and equipment, foreign airport taxes, excess baggage charges, room service, , tips, etc, everything which is not mention at the included part, in the trip details, are your own responsibility. ! But don't worry; your money will travel a lot further than you think!

All transport during the trip is included, whether private or public, road transport and transfers as per the itinerary. (Please note that airport transfers at the beginning and end of a trip may not be included in the Land Only price, and in some cases domestic flights are charged separately. This will be indicated on the 'Dates and Prices' page for your trip if applicable).

The standard of accommodation we use can vary from excellent 4-Star hotels to basic high mountain refuges. We always try to choose comfortable accommodation with local character, although in some areas this may not meet Western standards and in gites or mountain huts only dormitory accommodation may be available. This is all part of the experience of an adventure holiday and a flexible approach is required. Where hotel accommodation is provided, this is based on twin occupancy. If you book on your own (and half of our clients do) we will arrange for you to share with a person of the same gender. When camping, for the majority of our trips we supply spacious 2-man tents with sewn-in groundsheets. A mess tent, cook's tent, toilet tent, plates, cutlery etc. are all provided. On climbing trips that require high camps, up to 3 people may on occasion be required to share a lightweight mountain tent.

No Compulsary Single Supplements
You will only be charged a single supplement if you specifically request a single room or tent.

Optional Single Rooms or Tents
Single hotel rooms and single tents are available for many of our trips, please check the 'Dates and Prices' page on the specific trip for costs. Please note that on climbing trips single tents will not be available at high camps.

Included Meals
Wherever practical, all meals are provided within the trip price. However, there is no set rule, for example, you will need to pay for lunches and dinners when staying in major towns. Each trip description on this website gives an indication of the meals you may need to buy and more information can be found in the trip dossiers.

All IVA groups are accompanied by a professional leader or a local guide selected on the basis of his or her experience and leadership skills. There will also be a local crew of drivers, cooks, porters and other appropriate staff. We only appoint leaders who have consistently demonstrated that they can meet the high standards expected by us and by our clients. Some climbing trips will have 2 or more leaders, depending on group size.

Single Supplements?
You will only be charged a single supplement if you specifically request a single room. Otherwise you will be paired up with someone of the same sex.
Single Supplement prices on the website are for specifically requested single hotel rooms or single tents whilst on trek.

Can I pre-book a single room and/or tent for my trip?
We offer both single hotel rooms and single tents for a supplementary cost (depending on availability) for most of our trips. Details of availability and prices can be found on the dates and prices page of each trip on this website. Alternatively, call the IVA office for more information.

Who are I Visit Albania travellers?
I Visit Albania adventures are for travellers with a yearning to get off the beaten track. Whether you're travelling solo, with a group of friends, or are aged 18 or 70, there is an I Visit Albania adventure to suit your interests and comfort level. Each I Visit Albania (IVA ) adventure has a physical and cultural grading to help you decide if the trip is right for you.

How many people will be on my trip?
Good things come in small packages, which is why we keep our group sizes down. This means we’re small enough to remain flexible as we thread our way through communities without intimidating the locals. On most of our trips you’ll be part of an intimate group of 12-16 people, though our group sizes are on average 10 people. Group sizes are displayed on each trip’s overview page on our website.

Are there age restrictions on your trips?
For the majority of our trips the minimum age is 15. An adult must accompany all children under the age of 18. Younger children are allowed on our Family trips and Short Break Adventures, but check each trip for its minimum age, which is located on the trip’s overview page on the website.
Most of our trips don’t have a maximum age limit, but a Self-Assessment Form is required for all passengers 70 years and over.
No special skills are required for most adventures, just a sense of adventure and a curiosity about Albania. Even on our camping adventures no previous experience is required; our tents are easy to set up, even for first-time campers.

What is the likely group profile?
IVA clients come in all shapes, sizes and ages and from all walks of life! Taking a popular trek such as Valona vally as an example, we would not be surprised to find an age range from 20 to 80, with a reasonable mix of male and female travellers. Around half of our clients in a typical group will be solo travellers, with the others being couples or groups of friends.

What Kind of Guides Do You Have?
We believe our guides are the heart and soul of any expedition. They are all handpicked and certified by the Tour Guides Association, and all possess a profound knowledge of their area of travel, its wildlife, natural history and culture, and will consistently keep you informed and aware of your surroundings. Our guides are selected not only for their love of the outdoors, but also for their caring nature, competence and enthusiasm, as well as the unique touch only a local can give you. And just in case you wanted to ask, YES, all are fluent in English! (other languages can also be arranged)

Can I just do part of the trip?
Although you won’t be reimbursed for any portion of the trip unused, you can opt to sign off the trip if you need to leave a day or so earlier. If you let us know before travel that you’ll be arriving late or need to leave before the trips ends, we will notify our team on the ground to best accommodate your requirements.

Can I make any changes to the itinerary of my group trip, either before or during the trip?
Please make sure you are happy with your group trip itinerary before booking because we are unable to change them for individual travellers. However, if you and a group of friends, colleagues or even your school would like your own personally designed itinerary, get in contact with our very talented Private Groups; they can tailor an itinerary just for you.

Can I add an extra night on the beginning or end of my group trip, either before or during the trip?
You sure can. Just ask your travel specialist at the time of booking.

Can you provide me a list of hotels we are staying at?
We are only able to provide information on your joining and finish point hotels, the details of which are listed in your Trip Notes.
As I Visit Albania likes to support numerous local businesses, we often have a few hotels in each city that we can alternate our groups between. For this reason, we can’t give you a full hotel list before you travel. At the welcome meeting on Day 1, your leader may be able to provide you with this so you can email friends and family back home with the details.

How do I obtain Trip Notes/itinerary for full details of my trip?
Every trip has a set of trip notes, accessible on our website, that gives you in-depth information about all aspects of your trip. To access your Trip Notes, please visit your trip’s specific facts page on our website. To get there, either enter the name of the trip (or the Trip Code) and click on the search icon. Your trip will appear – click on the trip name and you’ll be taken to its overview page. The Trip Notes are in the menu on the right-hand side of this page – click on this and voila!

Does I Visit Albania have family trips?
I Visit Albania offers a wide range of Family Adventures around the globe. The minimum age (for Family trips) varies depending on destination, and I Visit Albania has set minimum ages to ensure that the included activities suit each age range. Additionally, you’ll notice that some of the more adventurous destinations have a higher minimum age.

Can I bring my 14-year-old son with me?
Depants on what kind of the itinerary you have choose. If you would like to travel with your family, we'd suggest you look at the fantastic range of specific Family Adventures that we offer. Alternatively we would be happy to advise on a suitable private trip itinerary for you.

I am 75. Can I still travel with IVA?
In theory, yes you can. There is no upper age limit on any of our trips, although we do require those over the age of 70 to send a letter along with their booking to confirm that they fully understand the implications of the trip and that they are fit enough to participate fully.

Do I Have To Be Fit to Enjoy My Trip?
Our trips are designed for all levels of walkers and multi-activity/outdoors enthusiasts. However, it is always better to begin a journey as fit as possible. It will contribute to your general well being and maximize your enjoyment of the trip. If in doubt, contact our I visit albania team for more advice.

What luggage should I take with me?
You should take 2 items of luggage.
We would advise that you read the equipment lists on each trip on this website, for example the trip dossier (also downloadable from each trip on this website) carefully for more information on baggage and equipment required for your chosen trip.

What type of luggage do you recommend I take?
On most I Visit Albania trips you will be required to carry your own luggage, sometimes up stairs and on and off transport. We therefore recommend you travel with a backpack.

Can I store excess luggage at the starting point hotel?
Most starting point hotels can store your excess luggage for you; however, this is at your own risk. Often a nominal fee is charged for this service. Of course, this is only an advantage if your trip is circular (i.e. returning to the same starting point).

Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?
We only have a handful of itineraries where sleeping bags are required and these are generally trips that involve camping. When we use homestays, blankets are provided but some travellers feel more comfortable with their own sleeping bag or sleep sheet. This decision is a personal preference. Refer to your Trip Notes if you are unsure whether a sleeping bag is required.

What clothes and footwear should I take on treks?
On a more physical trip, hiking boots are definitely recommended. If the physical rating is under 3, hiking boots or sneakers/runners will be adequate. Many I Visit Albania treks will be hiking in near freezing environments so please be sure to research the climate and weather conditions at the time of year you will be trekking and pack accordingly. There is also a packing 'checklist' in your Trip Notes.

What essential documents do I need to take?
It’s important that you always travel with your current passport, travel insurance and I Visit Albania documentation.

What's the situation for charging camera batteries whilst on my trip?
Depending on the type of camera you have, we suggest taking a couple of spare batteries. This will probably be the lightest option, rather than carrying your charger and converter etc. Modern lithium batteries hold their charge well and can last for a two or three week trip, depending on usage of course.
On trek, you can minimise battery use by not viewing photos and by switching the camera off as much as possible. A compact solar charger or a power monkey could also be a good investment. Electrical power is not always guaranteed in some villages However this is not the case in more remote valleys so we would always suggest taking spare batteries.

I’m travelling alone – is that OK?
This is the beauty of the I Visit Albania style of travel: many of our travellers join because they are travelling solo and want to meet and share experiences with like-minded people.

If I am a single traveller will I be charged a single supplement?
As a single traveller, you will usually have the choice of either paying a single supplement or sharing with someone of the same gender. No single supplement is available on our Basix style adventures.

I have special dietary requirements – will they be catered for?
We will try our very hardest to accommodate all dietary requirements but in some out-of-the-way places it can be very difficult to guarantee. We will let you know if there are places on your itinerary where this is the case. Please let us know at the time of booking of any food requirements or allergies and we’ll pass the information onto your leader. It is also a great idea to bring a card with your dietary requirements written in the local language for those times you are eating away from the group.

Do you cater for special diets?
Whilst we routinely cater for vegetarians, we cannot provide special diets. We suggest that you contact our office to discuss your dietary requirements; it is possible to accommodate certain dietary requirements in some places, but there are many trips where this is not possible at all. Note that we cannot provide separate menus and cannot accept any liability for any problems arising from special dietary requirements or intolerances.

What are optional activities? Where can I find details on optional activities?
Our trips always offer a bunch of exciting optional activities. When you arrive at each destination, your leader will brief you on your options and help you book them. If you are keen on to plan ahead, the Trip Notes have a list of included and optional activities under each day in the itinerary. You’ll also find more options on the ground, which your leader will advise you of at the time.

Do I book and pay for optional activities now or during the trip?
In most cases, optional activities are booked and paid for on the ground. This allows you the flexibility to change your mind as you relax into travelling mode and meet friends.

Can I opt out of certain activities if I want to?
Absolutely. If there are included or optional activities that you don’t wish to participate in, you can do your own thing instead. The exception to this is when we are trekking or travelling from one destination to the next. Please note that if you choose to opt out of an included activity, no reimbursement can be made by I Visit Albania.

How difficult is the trek on my trip?
I Visit Albania has treks ranging from relatively easy to extremely difficult. The easiest way to determine if a trek is right for you is to check the ‘physical rating’ of the trip (this can be found on our website at the top of the trip’s overview page). If the rating is 1-3, it is manageable for those with a moderate level of fitness; those trips rated 4-5 will require a fit participant who has been training in the lead up to their trip.

Do I get any free time?
The beauty of travelling with I Visit Albania is that we encourage travellers to explore at their own pace. When you get to a destination, your leader will offer options on what you can do. Some of the group will do one activity, others will opt for something completely different while others may just choose to lie in a hammock and read a book. Your Trip Notes have more details on what your trip’s itinerary and timeframes permit.

What if I arrive late and miss part of the trip?
If you know in advance that you will be arriving late, please let our sales staff know. We will notify your leader, who will leave instructions with the hotel reception as to where to meet your group that night or the following morning.
If you plan to arrive a day or two into the itinerary (and our group has moved to a different destination), it will be your responsibility to ‘catch up’ with the group. If this happens, we will provide you with the most up-to-date information as to where your group will be and at approximately what time.
If you are late due to unforseen circumstances or flight delays, please call the emergency contact number located in the Trip Notes. I Visit Albania cannot reimburse you for any portion of the trip unused, but this can often be claimed on your travel insurance.

How does I Visit Albania support sustainable travel and protect the environment?
Wherever we go we travel with respect for the people and the environment. We’re working hard to make our business as responsible and sustainable as possible, from our head office through to our trips on the ground.

What about IVA's environmental impact?
Ever since we ran our first trip in 2009, we have been committed to operating in a responsible manner. We recognise the fragility of the world's wilderness environments and minimise our environmental impact by keeping our groups small and operating according to a ‘Mountain Code' and Code of Conduct, that is provided to all groups, trek leaders, agents and staff. We make sure that our local staff are well treated and well paid, we respect indigenous cultures, take care to protect the environment of the places we visit and take every opportunity to make a positive contribution wherever we travel.

The IVA Mountain Code
PROTECT the environment - its flora, fauna and landscapes
RESPECT local cultures - traditions, religions and built heritage
BENEFIT local communities - both economically and socially
CONSERVE natural resources - from office to destination
MINIMISE pollution - through noise, waste disposal and congestion
It is also important to us that our clients are not the only beneficiaries of the travel experience, but that we share a two-way relationship with the areas that we visit. Our association with the Juniper Trust is a big part of this - allowing us to make a positive contribution in many parts of the world.

When do I receive my voucher/travel document?
As soon as we receive your payment, you will receive your travel document/voucher as a reservation proof. If you choose to pay online, you will receive your voucher in a few hours. If you choose to pay the advance payment or full amount by bank transfer, it takes several days until the money comes to our account and it may take up to 4 days before you receive your voucher.

Do I need to pay and if so what do I pay to make a reservation?
To confirm and guarantee a reservation you need to pay a partial amount of the total reservation price. This amount paid varies on the individual agreements we have with different hotels or car rental companies and might be different for each of them. To give you an indication this amount is approximately 10-20% of the total amount of the booking in majority of cases. The remaining difference from the total reservation amount is then paid at the service provider upon your arrival and obtaining of services. These amounts will show when you make the payment and be reflected in the Booking confirmation document you receive upon completion of payment.

What are the payment methods and currency?
Through our partner PayPal one of the major online credit card processors we offer you the possibility to pay by debit or credit card. Payment is made in Euro however PayPal offers the possibility to pay in your own currency. For more info on the cards accepted and currencies you can pay. You can also pay by bank transfer if the reservation is made at least 4 days prior to check in date.

Are there any processing fees and when will my card be charged for a booking?
NO. There are not any additional or hidden processing fees applied when making a payment in our site. You pay the price you see for the hotel in total but will pay by credit card only the deposit amount requested at the time you book. The rest of the payment is made directly with the hotel or service provider. After paying the deposit you will automatically receive the Booking confirmation document which confirms that the booking has been made.

Why do I have to pay in advance?
By paying in advance a small deposit, you are guaranteed the accommodation unit you have reserved on our web pages, since your advance payment is immediately forwarded to the hotel.
Please read our Terms and Conditions for further information.

Is there an amount limit I can pay by credit or debit card?
Please note that in some cases your credit or debit card payments may be limited to sums of up to 1000 Euro without verification completed. Those limits are applicable for a 60 days period. If you would like to process a payment above the mentioned amount you'll need to complete account verification with PayPal. The other option for paying higher amounts would be to use the bank wire option.

Why am I asked for a password when trying to make a payment?
In general if a customer has used the PayPal payment gateway 3 times, on the 4th time the system will simply ask the user to log in with a previously chosen password.
PayPal consider all users who are using their payment gateway solution more than 3 times a regular user and therefore you may be asked to log in. In case you do not remember to have chosen a password please contact PayPal client support.

Who is responsible for bank fees?
In case of bank transfer payments the client is responsible for all bank transfer charges. Our company must receive the exact amount stated on the invoice.

Why are bank fees sometimes higher than expected?
Bank fees should and do not exceed 40 Euro in total. One of the reasons may be that your bank does not have a contract with I Visit Albania bank. meaning that the payment is made through a third bank known as an intermediary. Since each bank charges transaction fees, your bank fees may be higher.

Do I have to be the holder of the credit card I am using for payment?
No, the booking can be paid by credit card whose holder is not necessarily the holder of the booking. However the credit card holder should make the payment or have authorized you to do so.

What are the payment deadlines?
By credit card payment is made instantly, while by bank must be made until the payment option expires.

If I do not have a Credit card can I pay the hotel upon arrival?
You must pre-pay the deposit. Only the difference between total amount and deposit can be made cash on arrival at the hotel and only after having prepaid the deposit. This platform has been created with the intention of facilitating the booking process for both the client and the property. As such prepayment of a deposit at least offers a guarantee to both parties.

When and how will I receive the documents regarding the booking?
Documents will be sent to you by e-mail, upon receipt of payment of the deposit amount.

When can we check in at the hotels?
The check in times are set by the suppliers and will show on the information for each hotel.

What is a "no show" and a “late check out”?
A "no show" is a term used in cases when you have made a reservation but never checked in, and did not inform the hotel or us of your intention to cancel. As per hotel cancellation policy, there are no refunds for "no shows."
Late check out is when you vacate your room and give back the room key after the official times a hotel requests its guests to do so. If you are checking out late talk to the hotel staff to agree to this or you maybe charged extra fees. “Late check out” fees vary from hotel to hotel.

What is your cancellation policy?
The cancellation policy is set by each hotel and is clearly shown on the hotel information page, the booking form and also on your pre paid accommodation voucher.

Where can I find directions to the hotel?

Who should we contact in case we have a problem with the hotel reservation?
You should contact the hotel or the agency through which the accommodation was booked. In the highly unlikely event that the hotel cannot find your reservation, please be sure to present them your Booking confirmation document. If problems persist, call at our company. Emergency Customer Service line, available 7 days a week, from 08:00 till 17:00 at the number +355 69 60 40 641.

Yes all applicable taxes are included in the price you see at our page.

Why can certain hotels only be booked for a minimum number of nights?
During the high season some hotels can only be booked for minimum number of nights (mostly 7 ore 10), as these are conditions set by the hotels themselves.

How can I change or cancel my reservation?
All electronic Booking confirmations and Booking Orders you will receive from our site have a booking ID number and a link at the bottom page where you can cancel your reservation. If you click on “cancel your reservation” link you will be taken to a page where you have to click a “cancel” button and this automatically cancels your reservation. You will receive a cancellation notice by e-mail. Once you have completed a reservation you cannot change it. If you want to change it you have to cancel it and start the booking process over.

What is the Booking confirmation Document, and how do I get the contact information of the hotel?
The Booking confirmation Document shows that your reservation has been booked and confirmed. We recommend that you print and keep this document as you will need to present it at the time of check-in. The Booking confirmation Document also holds important reservation information, including your confirmation number and hotel contact information. This document will be sent to you by e-mail, upon receipt of a partial payment for the reservation also called a deposit.

How long will it take for my reservation request to be answered to?
There are two categories of reservation requests possible: Instant bookings for “Available” hotels and bookings on request for hotels which are not instantly available and are classified as “Confirmation required” in our website .
In the first case when hotels have “Available” status everything is straight forward and instant. After completing payment you will receive an automatic Booking confirmation document from our company confirming your reservation as definite.
For hotels with “Confirmation required” status you will receive a Booking Order via email informing you that your reservation is pending and will be confirmed or declined within maximum 48 hours depending on availability.
If the property has availability you will receive an e-mail from us confirming availability. Then you should click on the link on the top of the Booking Order you had previously received and proceed to payment. After completing payment you will receive from our system an automatic Booking Reservation’ which states the deposit amount you have paid and the sum remaining to be paid at the hotel.
If the property has not availability you will receive an email explaining there is not availability at the requested hotel. You should then cancel this original request as explained in the section 9 which deals with how to cancel your reservation. We then invite you to go on to our website to make a new reservation at an alternative hotel.

How important is that my e-mail address is correct and in function?
In order to receive confirmations via e-mail make sure that the address you enter when sending your booking request is correct. If you enter an incorrect e-mail address you will not be able to receive a reply and this could lead to communication problems and misunderstandings. Therefore, it is crucial that you make sure all data is correct.

Why did I not get a confirmation of my reservation by e-mail?
Our e-mail might have gone to your junk or spam mail box, so please check your junk mail. If our e-mail has been sent to your Junk or Spam mail folder, please open it and click on the 'this is not spam' button to prevent it from happening again. If the e-mail cannot be found please contact us at contact@albania-holidays.com with details of your booking, and if you do not get a reply within 2 hours please call us at the number provided.

Can I make a booking for tonight on your website?
Yes you can, only by selecting hotels available for instant booking. Please ensure that you enter your credit card details correctly as there is very limited time for us or the hotel to contact you.

Can I make a reservation by phone?
Yes you can if you have a valid credit card. While our website was designed to give customers an easy way to reserve hotel rooms online, we understand some customers prefer a more personal touch. Our customer service staff will be pleased to guide you through and complete the reservation over the phone.

Can we book a triple room?
Depending on the trip style you choose, our trips are organised on a twin, triple or multishare basis. As our bookings are made well in advance, individual room requests can’t be guaranteed.

Can I book a single room?
You can book pre and post accommodation on a single basis; however, throughout your I Visit Albania trip, rooming is organised on a twin-share basis. Some trips do have a single supplement available – check a trip’s overview page on our website, or their Trip Notes, to see whether a single supplement is offered. If so, please request this at the time of booking.

Are hotels air-conditioned/ heated?
We want our passengers to be as comfy as possible so when you are headed to a hot climate, it is likely that you will either have a fan or air-con. Of course, if you are staying in remote areas or at homestays, you will need to expect the facilities to be a little more basic.

What standards of hotels should I expect?
The standard of hotel depends on the Trip Style you have chosen. Basix accommodation is generally budget (1-2 star), while Original is budget or tourist class (2-3 star). On a Comfort trip you can expect tourist class (3-4 star).

We can’t confirm an early check-in, but our sales team can assist in booking you a night of pre accommodation at the same hotel. If you don’t wish to pay for the extra night, you can try your luck locally (they may let you in early if the room is free) or you can store your luggage.
